Knee Bands or Straps are devices that focus compression on the patellar tendon to help decrease the stress at the tibial tubercle. This stress is the cause of many orthopedic conditions including Patella Tendonitis (jumper's knee/runner's knee) and Osgood Schlatter's disease. Most knee bands are a one size fits most.
Girls who play sports are two to four times more likely to injure their ACL than male athletes are.
The patellar tendon (or ligament as it is sometimes called) connects the patella (kneecap) to tibia (shin) bone. This is the tendinous region just below the knee cap. Under repeated stress with certain sports, an overuse of the patella tendon can occur. This can often lead to inflammation and even a partial tearing of the tendon. Injury to this area often affects athletes involved in jumping or throwing sports. Basketball, weight lifters, tennis and racquetball players can also be affected.
