- IT Band Syndrome
IT Band Syndrome
Iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS) is caused by inflammation located on the lateral aspect of the knee due to friction between the iliotibial band and the lateral epicondyle of the femur. Pain is felt most commonly on the lateral aspect of the knee.
The IT band is made up of fibers that runs from the outside of your hips to the outside of your thigh and knee down to the top of your shinbone. If the IT band gets too tight, it can lead to swelling and pain around your knee, referred to as ITBS.
The most effective knee braces for this condition are the knee bands. Most knee bands are designed for patella tendonitis, which is below the knee. If you place the band above the knee and pad the lateral side, you have an iliotibial band brace.
